Stephen West

Stephen West’s prolific shawl designs and innovative use of color have made him an internationally recognized designer. Stephen was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma; moved to Chicago, Illinois for school, and later moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands, to study choreography. Stephen's designs have been knitted by thousands of knitters all around the world. He currently lives in Amsterdam where he co-owns Stephen & Penelope, a yarn boutique in the city center.

Choose one of our five-colour Twist Nouveau kits and fade your skeins from light to dark in this easy-to-knit Faded Undulation, Stephen West’s latest garter stitch shawl. You will work increases and decreases to form the waves, and create some eyelets to decorate the fabric and add a soft fluidity. The size is easy to customise by binding off early for a shorter shawl or with more pattern repeats for a large luxurious shlanket.

This cool two-coloured brioche shawl by Stephen West is knitted top-down and is shaped with some seriously massive increases that, for lack of a better word—explode—making this big hole that starts from just one stitch. The whole look comes together with a mix of increases and decreases that give it this cute wavy border. This semi-circular shawl is all about having fun with those colours, textures and stitches!
