Some of you know about Laurian. Laurian was my mother’s father. He was a proud Beauceron, and the inspiration before the sweater of the same name. I had wanted to make a tuque inspired by The Beauceron, by Laurian, for quite a while now.

Laurian’s Tuque features the same slipped stitches colourwork (aka mosaic knitted) motif than The Beauceron. The tuque is comprised of 5 sections of a mindless, 4-row repeat, inspired by how I constructed the sweater (Max doesn’t understand the link, but I swear, there is one…!)

You will need aran-weight yarn, in two colourways (high or low contrast). If you buy two full skeins, you have enough to make 2 hats of the largest size, in inverted colours, with big and fluffly pompoms for each.

MEASUREMENTS
Sizes:
1 (2, 3, 4)

Circumference, unstretched:
13¾ (15¾, 18, 20½) in
34.5 (39.5, 45, 51.5) cm

To fit head circumference of:
18 (20, 22, 24) in
45 (50, 55, 60) cm

The sizes roughly correspond to Child (Teen, Adult Small, Adult Large). Choose a size that allows for 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) of negative ease around the head.

YARN
Weight: Aran

Main colour:
1 (1, 1, 1) skein of Dyed by Delz Merino Aran or
80 (88, 93, 105) yd
73 (80, 85, 95) m

1 (1, 1, 1) skein of Dyed by Delz Merino Aran or
32 (34, 38, 41) yd

With two full skeins, you have enough to make the largest size twice (inverting the colourways) and two rather large pompoms.

Sample shown in Dyed by Delz Merino Aran:
MC (Chris’s Pine Green), CC (Pepper’s Mint)
